The Meadowview House site lies on the edge of a rural village in Bedfordshire, England and is surrounded by mature trees, hedgerows and arable fields. It is designed by Platform 5 Architects.
The landscaping around the house forms a transition between the domestic and agricultural environments. The abstract nature of the surrounding agricultural landscape and vernacular buildings has informed the design, resulting in a house with a simple linear form with a horizontal emphasis. The deep recessed balcony acts like a lens hood, framing sunsets over the countryside.
The house is well insulated and incorporates sustainable technologies such as mechanical ventilation with heat recovery to reduce heat losses whilst, a rainwater harvesting tank supplies water to the toilett and the garden irrigation system.
